Procrastination: I’m a Pro!

Hey, remember me?!

Yes, I know, I didn’t post anything last week.  I was busy – and I know, I say that every time I fail to post.  But it’s true – and yes, I know I say that every time, too!

See, my husband surprised me by bringing home a puppy.  She was terribly cute, but also terribly young and a whole lot of work, as puppies often are.  After a couple of days, it became fairly apparent to me that we wouldn’t be able to keep her – an indoor dog needs a lot of training and work devoted to this, and a really young puppy needs a lot of attention.  Because of the hours that my husband and I work, we are both away from home for long stretches at a time, and it seemed unfair to lock her up in a room alone so often.  Plus, she was killing my back.

Such a cutie – but high maintenance!

In the end, a week later, one of my husband’s colleagues came to pick her up.  He knew that this woman’s family had been preparing to get a dog, so when we decided that we couldn’t keep her long-term, he asked if she was interested, they finished getting everything ready, and came to get her.  They will give her a good home, I’m sure, and I still have visitation rights!

However, the puppy was still here for a week and wanted to play a lot, and when it came down to writing a blog post or playing and cuddling with a puppy…well, you know what won out!

Also, taking pictures of the puppy sleeping in strange positions occupied the rest of my free time!

In the midst of all this, my husband suffered a loss in his family, so traveled back to his hometown to be with them, and I was caring for the puppy solo for most of the week as well.

Like I said, busy.

And unfortunately, being so busy running home to care for a puppy and being husband-less for a week means that I have very little new material for this week too.  I mean, there is the fact that this morning one of my students showed up in class wearing two different shoes, but I try to keep work out of this blog (and besides, she had a reasonable explanation:  one shoe from each pair had broken, so she just put them together to make a new pair!).

They are also two different sizes, in case you wondered.

But don’t despair!  I do have something for you to read – it just isn’t here on this site.
Jeff, from My New Chinese Love (you’ll remember them – they nominated this blog for the Lotus Blossom Award earlier this year), contacted me about doing an interview with them ages ago.  He even put together the questions – and then they sat in my inbox for a couple of months before I got around to doing anything with them.  Which would have been great, except that I couldn’t string my thoughts together coherently, so I put them away for a few days to revisit them, and then I proceeded to have back issues and Children’s Day activities and meetings at school and a puppy and all that.  And then suddenly, it was the end of July.

But the story has a happy ending – I finally managed to finish the questions and send them back to Jeff this week.  And Jeff is obviously nothing like myself, because he got right to work putting the interview together and publishing it.  Score – Jeff:  1, Kelly:  0.

The interview mainly focuses on the relationship that my husband and I have, and our two weddings.  So, if this rambling, excuse-filled non-post hasn’t satisfied you, you can head over and check out my interview.

And let’s all cross our fingers that something really weird and unexpected happens in the next week so I have something to write about!

    Cute puppy!
Is that your husband’s subtle hint on wanting a baby? :D

She certainly is cute, but like I said, she’s with her new family now.

It may be a hint, but my husband has been far less than subtle in the past, so I doubt he’s too worried about that. ;)

Hi Sarah – Hope all is well and that your procrastinating doesn’t continue for too long. I’ve been following your blog for a couple of months now and wanted to nominate you for the Inspiring Blog Award. Our lives have a number of similarities and I enjoy seeing how you tackle being a foreigner in China. http://zhongguojumble.wordpress.com/2012/08/12/inspiring-blog-award/ Cheers – G
